he truth behind the detention of the US firm-owned ship and the arrest of its 35 crew members would come out after an enquiry into the matter, Shipping Minister G K Vasan said here today.
"All those arrested from the ship have been lodged at a prison in Palayamkottai. The truth will come out after a full enquiry. The law will take its own course," he told reporters here.
The ship flying the Sierra Leone flag was intercepted by Coast Guard in Indian waters 15 nautical miles off Tuticorin coast on October 12.
An FIR was registered against the 35 crew under the Arms Act for carrying arms without authorisation and Essential Commodities Act for buying 1,500 litres of diesel illegally with the help of a local shipping agent.
150th anniversary celebrations of Town HSS from January 27
Union Minister for Shipping G.K.Vasan has appealed to the people of Kumbakonam to celebrate the 150th year of Town Higher Secondary School in a grand manner.
Presiding over a meeting of the celebration committee headed by him in Kumbakonam on Sunday, Mr.Vasan said that 150th year anniversary celebrations of the school will be held on January 27, 28 and 29 next year. Eminent persons such as Mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan, former Union Minister T.T.Krishnamachary, Sadasiva Pandarathar were some of the notable alumni of the school. “Though I’m not a student of this school, I studied in Kumbakonam and I’m a son of this soil,” Mr.Vasan said.
The Town Higher Secondary School is being run from a heritage building and remains a temple of learning amidst the many temples of worship of the town.
The 150 years of educational service of the school should be lauded, recognised, and appreciated.
