Mr. Vasan ANNOUNCED IN FUNCTION IN KUMBAKONAM that a statue of G. K. Moopanar (FATHER OF SHRIG.K.VASAN)would be unveiled at Kumbakonam on July 3 by Pranab Mukherjee, Union Finance Minister. M. K. Stalin, Deputy Chief Minister, would participate in the function APART FROM OTHER SENIOR LEADERS &PARTY FUNCTIONARIES.

GANDHI STATUE UNVEILED IN KUMBAKONAM(thank you-the hindu)



Non-violence and truth are like two eyes for Mahatma Gandhi, said G. K. Vasan, Union Minister for Shipping, here on Monday.

Participating in a function orgnised to unveil a life size bronze statue of Gandhi, Mr. Vasan said Gandhi visited Kumbakonam five times during his lifetime. He visited Kumbakonam twice in 1920, once in 1927, 1934 and 1946. During his visits, he campaigned for non-cooperation movement, khadi development and temple entry for Harijans. So it was significant that a statue of Mahatma Gandhi was unveiled at Kumbakonam.

He said that the UPA government at Centre had christened the national rural employment guarantee scheme after Mahatma Gandhi and allotted Rs. 40,100 crore. Over 4.2 crore families would benefit from the scheme.

Mr. Vasan said that a statue of G. K. Moopanar would be unveiled at Kumbakonam on July 3 by Pranab Mukherjee, Union Finance Minister. M. K. Stalin, Deputy Chief Minister, would participate in the function.

Puducherry Chief Minister V. Vaithilingam unveiled the statue of Mahatma Gandhi. He said that many people, particularly youth might not know much about freedom struggle. They could get to know about it by reading textbooks. But they were enjoying fruits of freedom so that they should realise its importance.

Ko. Si. Mani, Cooperation Minister, G. R. Moopanar, AICC member, Tamilazhagan, Kumbakonam Municipal Chairman, Rangarajan and M. Rajasekaran, both MLAs, Raya Govindarajan, who contributed to the statue, Balasubramanian, City Union Bank Chairman, participated in the function.district president m.rajangam ex:m.l.a made the arrang ments.
