Vasan assures Hosur-Jolarpet rail link

The Union Shipping Minister G.K. Vasan assured the citizens of Hosur that he will pursue the quick implementation of the proposed new rail link between Hosur and Jolarpet via Krishnagiri with the Railway Minister Mukul Roy. Addressing the valedictory function of the centenary celebrations of the former Hosur Panchayat Board Chairman K.Appavu Pillai in Hosur, Mr. G.K. Vasan said that he had received many representations from the local people and several people's associations. Mr. Vasan also said that it was the Congress party that ruled the country for about 53 years and laid the foundation for sound education in the country. The literacy rate rose to 74 per cent from 18 per cent in 1951, he added. The Congress was instrumental in the development of the nation on several fronts, from education, infrastructure, transport, medicine and telecom. The United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is implementing development projects at a faster pace. It will acquire for the country a super power status. K. Manoharan, former MLA and son of late K. Appavupillai, welcomed the gathering and said that to mark the valedictory of the centenary celebrations, his family would adopt hilltop villages in and around Denkanikottai, Thotta Manju and offer medical assistance to the downtrodden for the next one year. On the occasion, students who bagged the first three places in English, Tamil, Telugu mediums in Plus Two last year were given cash awards. Conservancy workers in the municipality, head-load workers and auto-rickshaw drivers were given uniforms. A photo exhibition of K. Appavu Pillai was also arranged. K. Gopinath, Hosur MLA, K. Narasimhan, former MP, freedom fighter G.A. Vadivelu and former MLAs participated.
