Finale of National Maritime Day
The Grand Finale of National Maritime Day to be celebrated on April 5, 2013. This was the day when the first Indian ship S.S “Loyalty” sailed from Bombay to London in the year 1919. Prior to the National Maritime Day celebration, a delegation comprising of Shri Gautam Chatterjee, Director General of Shipping, Shri Sanjay Anchalwar, Deputy Director General of Shipping, Shri Anil Devli, CEO INSA, Shri B.K. Mandal, CMD – SCI and Shri Abdulgani Y. Serang, NUSI General Secretary-cum-Treasurer representing the Indian seafarers met the Hon’ble Minister of Shipping, Shri G.K. Vasan and Shri Milind Deora, Hon’ble Minister of State for Shipping in New Delhi on April 1, 2013 to congratulate them.
The Hon’ble Minister of Shipping, Shri G. K. Vasan appreciated the role of the maritime stakeholders who have always accepted and acknowledged the initiatives of the Government of India
Hon’ble Minister of Shipping, Shri G.K. Vasan assured the delegation and Shri Serang that the Ministry of Shipping is pursuing all the matters regarding the Income Tax and pension scheme for serving and retired Indian seafarers.
He also appreciated the recent initiative of the Maritime Administration regarding the issuance of Indian CDC’s to seafarers working on cruise ships and merchant navy foreign flag ships which was taken up by NUSI. This will provide and facilitate gainful employment opportunities to thousands of Indians on cruise and other merchant navy foreign flag ships.
