Rajarathinam Pillai's self-respect deserves appreciation
Inaugurating an auditorium constructed by Muthamizh Peravai Trust in the name of the late vidwan in Chennai, Mr. Karunanidhi said Rajarathinam Pillai stood up to the pressures of feudalism that prevented the nagaswaram and thavil players from wearing shirts and also instilled a sense of self respect in the minds of the youth belong to the isai vellala community.
He said the youth should emulate the qualities of Rajarathinam as a musician and man of self-respect.
Union Shipping Minister G.K. Vasan said the people of Tamil Nadu should patronise nagaswaram and thavil players by inviting them to perform in all auspicious functions in their families.
