

Union shipping minister G.K. Vasan, who is on a five-day visit to Vietnam, signed a maritime shipping agreement with his Vietnamese counterpart on Friday.
Vasan is on an official visit to Vietnam to strengthen cooperation in the maritime sector between the two countries. The minister is accompanied by a seven-member delegation including the secretary (shipping) P.K. Sinha, chairman of Inland Waterways Authority of India Vishvapati Trivedi and director general of shipping Gautam Chatterjee.
The minister held talks with Dinh La Thang, minister of transport of Vietnam, and discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in the maritime sector between both the countries especially in the areas of shipping, ship-building andrepair, ports management, ports security, safety and human resource development.
The ministers instructed officials on both sides to hold meetings in the following months to chalk out a map for maritime cooperation.
Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has full complete support in implementing the maritime shipping agreement. The Union minister will be visiting Ho Chi Minh city to examine the inland waterways and navigation systems there on May 26 and 27. The delegation will also be visiting Hoi Phong port and Nam Trieu shipyard before returning on May 28.
